Catastrophic fires commonplace

Audubon Magazine ran a piece called The Perfect Firestorm. Here's a short quote:

Welcome to the new era of “megafires,” which rage with such intensity that no human force can put them out. Their main causes, climate change and fire suppression, are fueling a heated debate about how to stop them.

Drought, Global Warming, 100 years of bad policy have combined to create catastrophic conditions in the forests of the western US. In the fall of 2010, we sat on our deck and watched the most damaging fire in Colorado history, two miles from our cabin. It burned 177 homes.
