We made our second trip of the year to Yellowstone the first week of September. We came in from the Grand Tetons, drove up by Yellowstone Lake, then followed the Yellowstone River up the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.
We ended our first day back in the Lamar Valley looking for wolves. We saw a couple this time. We also saw a Grizzly on a Bison carcass. We visited a couple of the thermal features that we did not see on our visit last winter. I think Yellowstone may be an annual visit from now on. It is a wonderful corner of God's creation.
We drove north from the Tetons to the South Entrance of Yellowstone National Park.
We saw much evidence of the big fire back in the '80's and more recent fires as we drove.
Once again, Beverly Gholson traveled with Genie and me to Yellowstone. She suggested we walk through the Geyser Basin, and it was quite a colorful walk.
It's amazing how close the Bison come to the Geysers. It is dangerous ground.
We were in the Heyden Valley when we came upon people with binoculars and spotting scopes. We got out and saw this female balck wolf at a great distance. Our first wolf of the trip!
There is always a crowd when the wolves are nearby
Spotting a wolf
Look at the size of those talons. They can take away a small dog.
